Welcome!

The tasks of the Department of Physics are to perform research in physics, meteorology and geophysics at high international level and to offer basic and post-graduate university level education in physics, meteorology and geophysics of the highest possible quality based on a foundation of a high standard of research. Today the areas of specialization of the Department are materials physics, condensed matter physics, applied physics, particle physics, meteorology and geophysics.
The new annual report is here!
Highlights of research

From materials physics
The research in the Division of Materials Physics is focussed on the study of nano clusters, i.e. atomic systems containing between 10 and 100000 atoms. These clusters have properties that are completely different from what we are used to in ordinary matter. Nano clusters have promising applications in various fields like coatings, optoelectronics and medicin.

About Elementary Particle Physics
Recent experimental results on W and top-quark masses are sensitive to the Higgs boson mass. The measurements of CDF experiment seem to hint towards a theory beyond the Standard Model. Participation in revealing the new theory is among the main research lines both in experimental and theoretical work in the Division.
